What do you think of 16 year olds (not neccessarily asian) guys driving mid range luxury cars their dad paid for them that infrequently show them off for spite? it's a constant debate on Bay Area Car Spotters (consisted of idiots making bad puns about lotuses and teslas).

The kids have no sense of money and therefore their parents aren't (imo) good parents.
What does being Asian have to do with any of this?

The main guy who is doing the cocky posts is asian, owns a GTR, 17, and has a part time "job" working for his dad to "pay off" his dad for his GTR.

It's a bit ridiculous, and probably a bad idea, but there are adults who shouldn't have them either(self control).

I say let them do their thing and you do yours, it's a waste of energy to be pissed off or jealous of people who haven't done a damn thing to earn them besides being born into the right family. If anything I feel bad for the kids, their parents obviously don't care about instilling a sense of worth ethic or fiscal responsibility which will make the transition to adulthood a whole lot more jarring once they move out on their own.

When I was a wee lad in my early 20s I met a young guy (16ish) that had a 1997 Eclipse GSX and at this time ('01 or so) this was a hot car. The thing is, this was his DAILY driver! His nicer car was a '99 3000GT VR-4 that was showroom floor perfect. The guy was and still is a nice fella, quiet, and really liked all kinds of cars. Of course it's easy to hate on people that have things handed to them, but on the other hand if I were 16 I sure as hell would have taken the cars!!!!
So really, I guess I might be getting old but all I can think of is who cares? Some folks are always going to have it easier than you/me and will just have everything handed to them on a silver platter. Cool beans, I'm just trying to finish my own projects :)

it's cool with me. There's other things I need to be worried about, like my family and work. They're just lucky to have that life style. Like most of are lucky that we're in a stable area with no to low crime. Hell. Some one is probably saying the same thing about people in regular ass cars who can't afford them.

The same thing I think of ever 16 year old: They should buy a $2000 first car like everybody else on the planet did when I got my license 14 years ago. We can probably adjust that number up to $4000, because let's face it, $2000 doesn't buy shit for a used car anymore and back in 2001 it actually bought a pretty nice set of wheels.
I'm an extremely jealous person, so yeah, a 16 year old with a GTR bought by his millionaire dad bugs me. I'm sure some of them are legit car guys, and some day will be worthy of that car, but today is not that day.

Well honestly if I was 16 and my parents were loaded and generous, I would not be working at Taco Bell to save money for a salvaged Escort. I do not begrudge these kids.

I agree. I had a friend buy a e36 m3 with his own money by reselling stuff from garage sales. His dad had more than enough to buy one for him, but his dad made sure he appreciate every dollar by letting him save up himself, with every 10.99 sale on eBay.

Sadly a lot of these kids never even experience what it's like to truly be on their own, they just ride their parents' coattails their whole lives. Case in point, went to school with a girl whose dad told her when she was 15, verbatim, that if the money her husband was making wasn't enough he'd be more than willing to finance the lifestyle she wanted to live. It's just like... I can't even fathom that being an option, not having to work for anything in your life and still living better than 99% of the country.

I think they have lame taste considering what they are offered. Buy something unique if you have someone's cash to burn. GTRs seem to be high on the list for cars young people drive with their parent's money.
*I'm not saying the GTR is boring or crappy yada yada yada. Its just common.

True. Some kids are genuinely passionate about cars. Just because their parents are loaded, doesn't always mean they're entitled douches.
But if they have any asshole tendencies, that totally negates everything else.
Then there are kids that are just douches who want to show off and don't really care about cars. They can kiss my ass.

I knew kids in college who grew up in situations like this, and ultimately I don't think anything of a generic "16 year old with a gtr." Trying to make a blanket judgement is stupid. No one can choose where they come from or who their parents are. If my parents had the money to buy me a GTR or a C7 in high school I would have loved to have one. Now if they're assholes about it then they're an asshole, but if they're not it's no reason to begrudge them just because of jealousy.

If I ever get very rich, my kids are going to have cool cars. I'm sorry but that is just the truth. They won't be showboating on public media, and the license plate will say DADSTOY or something to that effect, so they can't act like it is theirs. They will be in nice cars though.

I don't think anything about the 16 year old. I would want it too if my parents were paying.
But I do think the parents are irresponsible. That is WAY too much power to give a new driver. Teenagers need time behind the wheel to get good at driving. Giving an inexperienced driver with raging hormones that much power is bad.
It's hard enough for 36 year old me to drive safely when I have 350 HP at my disposal, let alone someone 20 years younger with way more power.

I wouldn't give the responsibility of a car that can do easily be abused to any child of mine. A old merc sedan for 4 and a half grand is one thing. But a GTR black edition is way too much. If your kid is 17, I doubt they will have that many years of driving under their belt. It's the same concept with motorcycles. You don't start off on a Ninja. You start off small and climb the rungs.

The process of finding yourself as a young man—or as anybody for that matter—is a difficult one that often leads people down strange paths. When I first went to college I was astounded with how people dressed. Everybody wore collared shirts and nice pants and loafers, whereas everyone in Michigan just wore jeans and hoodies. I found out that in my circumstance it was easy to get into that, and I spent a stupid amount of money, lots of it not my own, on a bunch of clothes for a couple of years. I know now that it doesn't really matter, and that that wasn't really a part of who I am—although I do still appreciate a quality pair of shoes.
I look at people like this in the same way. They don't wake up and think "I'm going to be a stereotype today", and if they do, it's because the people they're around like that stereotype, so it gets them positive results. If I was that age again, not knowing myself as well as I do now, and it was easy for me to get one of those cars and that made a group of people like me, I'd probably be the same way.
It takes a lot of experience to stop taking what other people think so damn seriously, and you kind of have to find out what it's like to be fake for a while so you can know how to be real. I know at least some of these guys will look back with embarrassment one day, and if they do it's because they've grown as a person.
tl;dr they're stupid kids, most of them will probably realize they're dicks eventually

I know plenty of 16 year olds who drive better than everyone here (and even more that drive better than most on the road). I also know a great number of 16 year olds who shouldn't be driving
So, what I'm trying to say is that I don't think much of it. It depends on who they are, and their widely varying situations despite the commonality of wealth between them.

I teach students who drive a V10 Ram, a supercharged 2010 Camaro, and a C6 Vette. I think the first two are okay and the third one is not, but that's all based on who the kids are. I think some kids, especially future mechanic/engineer types, are going to be okay with that sort of ride. Others, not so much at all.
If I had a kid they'd be purchasing something and purchasing something with less power.
